Materials guide

Types of lingerie fabrics

The fabric decides almost everything about a lingerie style — how it drapes, stretches, photographs and wears. This guide surveys the five material families we manufacture with most, what each does well, and the styles it suits, so you can spec your range with confidence.

Lace

Lace is the signature lingerie fabric — decorative, sheer and available in stretch, corded and re-embroidered constructions. Stretch lace moulds to the body for sets and teddies; rigid Leavers-style and Chantilly laces give structure and a luxury look for bra sets and bridal. Lace is the most visible spend in a garment and a key brand differentiator. Explore our lace range.

Mesh & fishnet

Mesh, tulle, powernet and fishnet knits provide sheerness with varying degrees of stretch and support. Soft tulle suits babydolls and overlays; powernet adds firm control for shaping and bodysuits; fishnet defines bodystockings. Mesh is light, breathable and economical, which makes it a workhorse across the range. See our mesh & fishnet options.

Satin & silk

Satin and silk-blends bring shine, fluid drape and a smooth hand-feel. Stretch satin and charmeose are used for chemises, robes, corsets and trim, while silk-blends sit at the premium end. Satin photographs beautifully and signals luxury, but needs careful cutting to control fraying and seam puckering. View satin & silk.

Spandex & elastane

Spandex (elastane) is rarely the whole fabric but is in almost everything — it is the stretch and recovery engine blended into lace, mesh and knits. Four-way stretch bases enable seamless, bodysuit and shapewear constructions and ensure a garment holds its shape after wear. The right spandex percentage is the difference between a piece that fits and one that sags. Explore spandex & elastane.

Leather & latex

Faux leather, wet-look PU and sheet latex give structure, sheen and a bold, statement finish for fetish and fashion-forward ranges. These materials need specialist bonding, edge finishing and hardware, and behave very differently from soft knits in production — but deliver a premium, high-impact look. See leather & latex.
